Candor Act Resources

The Utah Medical Candor Act, which was enacted in May 2022, establishes a voluntary framework for healthcare providers, which includes healthcare facilities, to offer compassionate and timely responses to patients who experience an adverse event.

The Utah Medical Candor Act was the result of an initiative undertaken by the Utah Medical Association (UMA). UMA's efforts to gain support in getting the legislation passed and its work with other partners across Utah's healthcare community were invaluable in designing a process to benefit patients, their families, clinicians, and healthcare systems by formalizing a non-adversarial process where there can be open communication about what happened, why it happened, and what can be done to prevent this in the future.

Below are several resources that are readily available and provide comprehensive details about the Utah Medical Candor Act, the Candor process, as well as sample templates of required forms.
